Let me introduce myself…

Who is Emiriifashion? She is me! I am Emily, a 18 year old Fashion Retail and Marketing student from Wales. I have always had a keen interest in fashion and all things creative from playing stylist to my Bratz dolls to taking Art and Design as an A-Level. So I have created this blog to express my thoughts about fashion and to share it with you, and I thought I would start off by telling you a little about me.

I’m currently studying at the University of South Wales. I am really enjoying my time here so far as it has allowed me to expand my interest in fashion and has given me insight into parts of the industry I wasn’t that aware of before. I also love living in Cardiff as it while it has always been my local city I am now able to view it in a different way. I am able to see the stores change their stock and how quick this is happening due to fast fashion, which is very interesting to see in real time!

Before coming to university I was studying A Levels in my school’s sixth form and as well as Art and Design A-level I also studied Religious Studies and History, and these other interests of ethics, politics, social issues and history translate into my interests within the fashion industry as well. I have a passion for the environment and sustainable fashion as well as using fashion as a form of self expression whether that is in terms of emotions, likes, gender, whatever you feel!

I love Japanese fashion. Japan has a vast array of different styles such as Lolita, Kogal and Decora (Definitely check these styles out if you haven’t already!), these styles are all highly decorative and detailed. I fell in love with J-fashion because of how bright, vibrant and exciting it is! It has a large contrast to the fashion trends that you see throughout the UK, USA etc. It inspires me to take more risks with my own style and incorporate elements of these trends into my own wardrobe.

In contrast to the colourful streets of Japan I also love alternative fashion. This stems from the music that I listen to. I was introduced to a wide range of rock music from my parents at a young age. I feel an affinity with this music genre as it is more than just music but is a whole culture, it gives people a place to belong. This culture is also translated into fashion as their are classic elements to alternative fashion such as black, leather and distressed clothing, which can be seen from early rock and punk eras such as the 1970s with the influence of Vivienne Westwood.

As a consumer and fashion lover however I don’t like the idea of limiting myself to just these styles, I think that the world of fashion is a place to explore, try new things and discover new styles, or just create your own!

Hope to see you on the next post,

From Emily.
