Access Vs. Ownership

It is rumoured that clothing rental will overtake fast fashion in the next 10 years, this is a bold statement to make as I feel that this is a topic that opinions get divided between people who would never rent someone else’s clothes and people who don’t overly mind.

Personally, I feel slightly indifferent towards it. I am not overly fussed on the idea of renting clothes, but I think this may be because I prefer high street/street wear brands that aren’t hard to get hold of, whereas I can understand wanting to rent more expensive designer garments. Also the more rare or expensive items I have got I worked hard to get and therefore want to be able to keep it.

However, I can see the appeal of it from an environmental perspective as it can lower carbon footprints and give the garment a longer life, but for this to be true I feel that you should only rent in your local area so that the shipping pollution isn’t too high.

I find it a really interesting topic that I think everyone should keep an eye on, however my gut reaction is that this isn’t going to become as popular as fast fashion but what do you think?
